Most garage floors look pretty rough.
They’re stained, dusty, cracked, or covered with whatever leaked out of the car six months ago. You can clean bare concrete over and over, but once oil and grime get down into it, that floor never really looks clean again.

Before we install a coating, we look at the slab itself. We want to know what condition it’s in, whether it has old coatings on it, where the cracks are, and whether anything may cause a problem.
The surface may need grinding, cleaning, repairs, or removal of an older finish before the new system goes down.
That part isn’t flashy, but it’s what separates a floor that lasts from one that starts coming apart.
Anybody can sell you a bucket of coating. The real job is knowing what preparation happens before that bucket ever gets opened.
One of the best things about an epoxy garage floor is that it doesn’t fight you every time you try to clean it.
Bare concrete is porous. Oil and dirt soak into it. Dust works its way into the surface. Even after you sweep and wash it, the floor can still look dirty.
An epoxy-coated floor is much simpler.
You can sweep it, blow it out, or mop it when it needs a deeper cleaning. Spills stay on the surface longer instead of immediately disappearing into the slab.
That makes a big difference, especially if you use the garage as more than a place to park.
A lot of people use their garages as workshops, home gyms, storage rooms, hobby spaces, or places to work on cars. A cleaner floor makes all of that more enjoyable.
A lot of homeowners assume every epoxy garage floor looks exactly the same.

You can go with darker combinations, lighter combinations, or neutral blends that work with the house. They’re practical, clean-looking, and a good fit for most garages.
A solid floor gives you a simple, uniform finish. It works well if you want the garage to feel clean and modern without a lot of pattern.
Metallic epoxy is for the homeowner who wants something that stands out.
These floors have movement and depth, with patterns that can look like marble, stone, smoke, or flowing metal. No two floors come out the same.
Metallic epoxy can look incredible in a garage used for a car collection, showroom, game room, or hobby space. It’s more dramatic than a standard flake floor, but that’s the point.
The right finish depends on the person and the garage. Some people want clean and simple. Others want the floor to be the first thing people notice.
No, and anybody who tells you otherwise is just trying to sell you something.
Most garage slabs can be coated, but we still need to inspect the concrete first.
Major cracks, moisture problems, old coatings, or heavy contamination can affect the job. Sometimes the floor needs more work before coating. Sometimes another system makes more sense.
I’d rather tell someone the truth up front than put down a floor that isn’t going to perform the way it should.
That’s why the first step should always be looking at the actual garage.
Pictures can help, but there’s no replacement for seeing the concrete and figuring out what you’re dealing with.
People spend a lot of money improving kitchens, bathrooms, patios, and living rooms. Then they leave the garage with the same stained concrete it had when the house was built.
That never made much sense to me.
The garage is a big part of the property. You walk through it. You store things in it. You may work out there, work on projects, or spend time with friends there.
